What CNC bending does
CNC bending, commonly carried out on a press brake, forms flat sheet along programmed bend lines to create angles, channels, trays, boxes and more complex folded parts. It is a key stage in many sheet-metal jobs because accurate bends determine how parts fit together later in the fabrication.
A laser-cut blank might look simple when flat, but bend direction, bend sequence and material behaviour all matter once it is formed. Supplying the finished-part drawing, rather than only the flat profile, gives the clearest picture of what the component needs to become.
Parts that commonly need folding
Typical folded work includes brackets, channels, panels, covers, trays, enclosures, guards, hopper sides and transition pieces. Several folded parts can also be welded together to create a larger assembly.
If a component forms part of an existing machine or installation, identify the surfaces, holes or edges that must line up with other parts. Those interfaces are often more important than an isolated bend dimension.
What affects a bending quote
The material, thickness, overall size, number of bends, bend geometry and quantity all influence how a job is planned. Tight return flanges, closely spaced bends and complex shapes can require a different sequence from a straightforward angle or channel.
