Where machining fits into fabrication
CNC machining removes material with computer-controlled tools to produce accurately defined features and components. In fabricated work it is often used alongside sheet-metal processes rather than on its own — for example where an assembly needs a machined flange, accurately positioned holes, a turned or milled detail, or a controlled mating face.
If your job combines fabricated and machined parts, send the complete drawing set. Seeing the relationship between the parts makes it easier to understand which dimensions are critical and what the finished assembly must achieve.
Typical machining requirements within an assembly
Machined work can include holes, slots, counterbores, threads, faces, bosses, spacers, flanges and separate components that are later welded, bolted or assembled into fabricated metalwork. The exact process depends on the drawing, geometry, material and quantity.
Where a machined component needs to locate a fabricated section, identify the datum or interface dimensions clearly. Those relationships often matter more than the individual part considered in isolation.
